08032017: #EXPLORING LANZAROTE

First of all I really need to apologize for the lack of posts during the last weeks. After the trip to Lanzarote I was super busy moving to Hamburg and searching for a room there (and yes, I was successful). 😛

Erstmal sorrrryyyyyyyy, dass ich so lange nichts geschrieben habe. Nach dem Spontantrip nach Lanzarote stand nur noch genau eine Sache auf dem Plan: Innerhalb von 4 Tagen eine Zimmer in Hamburg finden (und ja, ich war erfolgreich), hahah.

Well, about the trip itself I have to mention that I booked it two days before departure. I was considering Fuerte Ventura, Tenerife and Lanzarote and at the end I decided to fly to Lanzarote, as the climate should be better over there. The island is famous for the black lava sand beaches and it’s landscape which was formed by the vulcans. Then there is Cesar Manrique, the architect who made the island to which it is now. He once said ‘no building should be higher than a palm tree’. That quote is essential for all touristic hotels and you can really see a difference between Lanzarote and the other Canarian Islands.

Zur Reise an sich muss ich dazusagen, dass ich sie zwei Tage vor Abreise gebucht habe. Es war also alles recht spontan. Ich habe länger überlegt, ob Fuerte Ventura, Teneriffa oder Lanzarote; letztendlich ist es aufgrund der Klimatabelle Lanzarote geworden, mein Motto war ‘so warm, wie nur irgendwie möglich’. Lanzarote ist berühmt für die schwarzen Lavasandstrände und die Landschaft geprägt durch viele Vulkane. Außerdem verdankt die Insel ihren besonderen Flair dem Architekten Cesar Manrique. Sein Zitat ‘kein Gebäude soll jemals höher als eine Palme sein’ ist entscheidend, wenn man die Bauweisen der Hotels auf den verschiedenen Kanarischen Inseln vergleicht.

The hotel I chose is called “Allsun Albatros Lanzarote” and it was super nice. The whole garden, pool area and the little bungalows/ apartments (maximum two floors) were really beautiful. The beach was not far away at all but for laying down you need to find a wind-free place.

Das auserwählte Hotel hieß “Allsun Albatros Lanzarote” und ist wirklich zu empfehlen. Der gesamte Gartenbereich, die Poollandschaften und die Bungalows/ Apartments (maximal zweistöckig) waren sehr hübsch. Der Strand war in unmittelbarer Nähe, aber zum Sonnenbaden bedurfte es eines windgeschützten Plätzchens.

As I worked as an animator in several hotels, I now for the first time joined the fitness-and sports-program as a guest and not a trainer (I have to admit that I miss being an animator so freaking much). The program was very multifaceted. If someone doesn’t find anything to take part at there, this person isn’t to help anymore, hahah. Body workouts, special upper body or ab courses, running, nordic walking, pilates, aqua gym, Volleyball and a lot of activities more. Furthermore they offer a weekly hiking tour (sometimes along the cost, other up the vulcan). During my time there it was a 10 km long cost hike and of course I attended. Even if the average age of the participants was 60+ I enjoyed ambling after them so that I could catch some great shots of the Costa Teguise. As the weather played tricks on me I went to the gym a lot of times and attended as many courses as possible and I didn’t miss any round of Beachvolleyball. One of my daily highlights was the morning run towards the sunrise.

Für mich war das sozusagen eine Premiere in einem Hotel wie diesem, Urlaub zu machen. In Hotels mit großem Animations-, Sport- und Fitnessprogramm habe ich bislang immer selbst als Trainerin gearbeitet und es als Arbeitsplatz gesehen (dazu muss ich sagen, dass ich es wirklich sehr vermisse, als Fitness-Animateurin zu arbeiten). Das Programm war wirklich sehr vielseitig. Wer da keinen Kurs bzw. keine passende Sportart findet, ist selbst Schuld, hahah. Von Complete Bodyworkouts, über spezielle Bauch- und Oberkörper-Kurse, Nordic Walking, Aqua Fitness, Joggen, Pilates und Volleyball war wirklich alles mit dabei. Achja und es gab eine wöchentlich wechselnde Wanderung. In der Woche, als ich dort war, wurde eine 10km lange Küstenwanderung angeboten. Ich war natürlich (wenn auch zwischen Rentnern und Familien mit Kindern) dabei und konnte so ein paar schöne Fotos von der Costa Teguise ergattern. Weil das Wetter einem wirklich oft Streiche gespielt hat, war ich einen Großteil der Zeit im Fitness-Center und hab an verschiedensten Kursen teilgenommen. Natürlich hab ich auch kein Beachvolleyballmatch ausgelassen. Eines meiner täglichen Highlights war allerdings die morgendliche Joggingrunde; dem Sonnenaufgang entgegen.

Everyone knows the struggle: the sense of time during the holidays (holy days). First you think about booking 5, 6 or 7 days. Then you decide for 7 and tell yourself ‘Wow, so much time, don’t even know how to spend all these days there. Well, I could do some day trips.’ After 6 days: ‘How the f*** did all the time pass by so fast ? Tomorrow I’m leaving, didn’t I just arrive ?’ Who doesn’t know this feeling. The first days you think that you still have so much time and then PAFF and you flying home again.

Jeder kennt es (und hasst es): Das Zeitgefühl während desUrlaubs. Erst überlegt man, ob nicht vielleicht auch 5 oder 6 Tage reichen. Dann bucht man 7 und denkt sich ‘Wow, so lange im Urlaub, da kann ich so viel machen, hoffentlich wird mir nicht nach wenigen Tagen langweilig. Dann schaffe ich auf jeden Fall einige Tagestrips’. 6 Tage später: ‘F***, wie ist denn jetzt die Zeit so schnell vergangen ? Morgen geht’s schon heim, bin ich nicht gerade angekommen ?’ Wer kennt es nicht. Die ersten Tage im Urlaub sagt man sich immer, wie viel Zeit man doch noch hat. PAFF und man fliegt wieder zurück.

However, at least I made two excursions. One to the Sunday market in Teguise, which was nice and even would have been better if I would not have been surprised by a rain shower.

Wie auch immer, ich habe es zumindest geschafft, zwei Sightseeing-Touren zu machen. Die erste ging zum Sonntagsmarkt nach Teguise. Das war zwar schön, wäre aber noch schöner gewesen, wenn ich nicht klitschnass und durchgefroren wiedergekommen wäre, hahah. 

The second day trip was kind of a road trip across the island’s most important sights (or at least some of them). The good point is that Lanzarote is a very small island, what makes it easy to reach the different places really quickly by car. The disadvantage is the huge amount of monuments and sights (you can’t make it within a day). If I would have known that the weather would be that tricky – I actually don’t want to spell it, but it was kind of baaaaaaaad – I would have made more days of sightseeing instead of desperately waiting for the sun to come out, hahah. 😀 But anyway, I saw the Cesar Marique Foundation, Los Jameos del Agua, La Cueva de los Verdes and El Jardín de Cactus. Three of these have one thing in common: they are all created by Cesar Manrique. I personally connect a lot with it and it was very exciting to see all these locations in live, as one of my final exams in Spanish class was about his lifework. It’s super interesting who one architect can create the atmosphere of a whole island.

Der zweite Ausflug war eine Art Roadtrip um die halbe Insel, um die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten einmal zu catchen (oder zumindest so viele, wie möglich). Praktisch ist, dass Lanzarote eine verhältnismäßig kleine Insel ist, sodass man mit dem Auto sehr schnell von einem zum nächsten Programmpunkt fahren kann. Schade nur, wenn man sich nicht vorher informiert und überwältigt ist, wie viel es zu sehen gibt und dass man das an einem Tag gar nicht schaffen kann. Typisch ich, hahah 😀 Hätte man das Wetterproblem erahnen können, wären natürlich auch mehrere Tage Sightseeing drin gewesen. So habe ich lieber verzweifelt auf die Sonne gewartet, die immer genau dann aus ihrem Loch kam, wenn ich mich dazu entschieden habe, ins Fitnesscenter zu gehen. 😀 Dennoch habe ich vier superschöne Attraktionen gesehen: Die Cesar Manrique Fundación, La Cueva de los Verdes, den Kakteengarten und die James del Aqua. Drei von den Sehenswürdigkeiten haben eins gemeinsam: Sie wurden alle von Cesar Manrique erstellt. Ich selbst verbinde recht viel damit und fand es äußerst spannend die Orte einmal live zu sehen, da meine Facharbeit im Abitur von Cesar Manriques Lebenswerk handelte. Es ist wirklich interessant, wie ein Architekt eine Insel so prägen kann und ihr die passende Atmosphäre verliehen hat.

(Here my camera went out of battery, but anyway photos of a cave often look similar, it’s more the experience to walk through it what makes it that exciting. By the way in this cave the wifi was even better than in my home village in Germany, hahah)

Well, all in all Lanzarote is a super nice island, which is really a must-see. Maybe next time  I should check the climate better, before I book a trip, hahah. Actually it shouldn’t have been that bad, so over and above I was unlucky. Nevertheless it was a really great trip ! Have you already been to the Canadian islands ? Which one is your favourite ? Insgesamt ist Lanzarote wirklich eine wunderschöne Insel, die man gesehen haben muss. Vielleicht sollte ich das nächste Mal, bevor ich eine Reise buche, das Wetter besser abchecken, haha. Eigentlich sollte es aber auch gar nicht so schlecht sein. Dazu kam einfach Pech. Trotzdem war es eine superschöne Reise ! Seid ihr schonmal auf den Kanaren gewesen ?
